Can you believe it is already Holy Week? Maybe it’s because Pascha is a little early this year but Lent has seemed to fly by. I’m  happy to share with you a piece I did for New Martyr Magazine last year. It is a one page “comic.” Not really funny, but drawings of what happens at the service. It also instructs children on what the priest will do and where they will be anointed, so they can prepare. If your children are very young, you may want to get a paintbrush out and pretend to anoint them so they can practice. This helps out a lot so they know what to expect. 

With children in elementary school, it is still a good idea to go over what the priest will do and what they should be doing when they are anointed. I like to quiz my kids and see if they remember anything from last year. At the end of this post, I have the links to the PDF so that you can print your own copy. Please use the PDF if you want to print because the image will not be of the best quality. I’ve posted it in both a color and a black & white version.

Did you see our Christ Is Risen resource? It’s a visual version of the hymn so young children can understand some of the big words. It is also great for non-readers, as they can learn the words that go with the pictures and “read” along. 🙂
