My kids love spray bottles. We use a spray conditioner and they always want a turn spraying it. I decided to get them a spray bottle from the dollar store to help keep them cool this summer. I wasn’t sure how interested in it they’d be but wow…..it kept them busy for so long! They started out spraying themselves and each other. Then my toddler started spraying a tree. She kept at it for awhile. I asked her what she was doing and she said, “water tree, water tree.” I asked if she was watering the tree and she said, “yes.”
My preschooler overheard and this got her interested in watering things, too.
They watered my plants & the grass.
Then they watered any leaves they could find.
And they watered our bushes. (As you can see, the winter was very hard on our bushes, but they are still hanging on)
Watering the plants with the spray bottles is a perfect opportunity to talk about what plants need to grow – dirt, sunshine and water. It is our responsibility as believers in God to be good stewards of the earth and to take care of the plants. In Genesis 2:15 it says that “the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it” (NKJV). We talked about how God wants us to care for the plants and that they are helping to do that by watering them. If you don’t want your kids using water guns, this makes a great alternative! I know my kids really liked it and I hope yours will too!
